Product description

Climbing photography has always been considered to be slightly inferior within the realm of mountaineering photography. This is obviously due to the conditions in which the photographs are taken; we should not forget that under normal circumsances the photographer is not only under the same conditions on the pitch as the rest of the climbers, but he also has to carry his own load of photography equipment while at the same time managing to find enough inspiration to take his greatest ever shots. However the beautiful settings and spectacular action usually make up for any lack of artistic quality and the final result, more often than not, stands out for itself. Nevertheless this does not mean artistic quality cannot be achieved. A good example of this is the famous American magazine Climbing which probably publishes some of the best climbing photographs in the world, many of which are good enough to be included in photography exhibitions of any kind. Jeff Achey, the photography editor of the magazine is the person who is mainly responsible for this achievement. An excellent climber and photographer, he is one of the few who has the knowledge of the tricks, both large and small, which make the difference between a passable photo and one which is superb. Jeff explains, in a way which can be easily understood by both professionals and beginners, all one needs to know about climbing photography equipment; lenses, different types of film, climbing accessories for photographers, the fundamental basics of photography (light, exposure, composition, etc.), camara care, rope handling and so on, and even includes an appendix which gives advice on topics such as editing, storing and filing and, more importantly, on how to sell your shots, current prices and how you can become a professional. With colour photographs by the author on quality heavyweight paper this book is of a manageable size which can be carried with you and consulted easily on the spot. 140 pages. Author: Jeff Achey.
