Video-test: Dynafit TLT Radical ST2 Bindings

Barrabes has tested the new Dynafit TLT Radical ST 2 ski touring binding, which features a rotating toe-piece.

The Dynafit TLT Radical ST 2 binding is designed for Free Touring, which is to say, for those who enjoy long climbs, but also want maximum comfort, safety and performance on the descent.

It’s worth emphasizing that the new Radical ST 2 will bring increased safety and comfort to your ski touring adventures.

This binding boasts an innovative rotating toe piece which enhances reliable lateral release and reduces the risk of the toe popping open and allows it to absorb lateral impact. The heel is mounted on a rail, which is wider, to ensure optimum power transfer.

This design ensures a precise release mechanism and perfectly synchronizes the toe and heel, while providing exceptional ski performance. The 45mm length and a DIN range of 4-10mm guarantees a high level performance and safety. This is the highest adjustment range available in the free touring sector.

The TLT Radical ST2 also has a low stack height to optimize direct ski/boot contact. The availability of four brake widths, from 90 to 135mm, makes the Radical 2 range one of the most versatile on the market.

Weighing in at just 599 grams, this binding is certainly heavier than a competition model, but it is still reasonable and this slight increase in weight is compensated by the fact that it conforms to the ISO/DIN 13992 alpine touring binding standard.

If there are any drawbacks to these bindings, it would concern locking the binding for the climb, which is slightly more difficult, due to the rotating toe piece. If the toe is not centred properly, you won't be able to lift the toe lever to lock in the boot for climbing. And the same thing occurs when locking the binding for the descent; you need to check that the heel of your boot engages correctly with the heel piece. However, with a little practice you’ll quickly get the hang of it.

All in all, the TLT Radical ST 2 is a great innovation in the world of ski touring bindings with some exceptional features. The innovative rotating toe piece provides increased security and efficiency for a more enjoyable ride.
