The same photograph may not be submitted to the contest for use in two different categories.

CONTESTANTS
The contest is open to all amateur & professional photographers, residing in any part of the world, except employees and relatives of employees belonging to the Grupo Barrabes Cónsul S.L.
CLOSING DATE
The deadline for the submission of photographs ends on 18th January 2009. Photographs will not be accepted if they have previously won an award in any other contest.
PRESENTATION OF ORIGINALS
Each participant may send a maximum of 5 photographs to the contest. However, participants will not be awarded more than one prize.
Photographs may be submitted in two ways:
a. Via Internet using the specified link for uploading images to www.barrabes.com/photobarrabes. The image should comply with the following requirements::
- Maximum quality JPG/JPEG format
- Minimum 72 pixels/inch resolution
- Minimum width of 640 pixels and minimum height of 480 pixels for horizontal images and minimum width of 480 pixels and minimum height of 640 pixels for vertical images
- Maximum weight: 3MB
b. By post, on a CD addressed to:

The image should comply with the following requirements:
- Maximum quality JPG/JPEG format
- Minimum 72 pixels/inch resolution
- Minimum width of 640 pixels and minimum height of 480 pixels for horizontal images and minimum width of 480 pixels and minimum height of 640 pixels for vertical images
- No MB weight limit
Both the CD and images included should be identified with the name of the author. The photograph number should also be indicated (this will be the only number used to identify the image in the confirmation E-mail sent to the author) as well as the title of the photograph and the name of the file. It will not be possible to return CDs submitted for the contest.
(It is recommended that the images are submitted in the largest size and best quality possible)
Photographs can be taken using any sort of format (digital, conventional, slides...) but they should be presented following the requirements stipulated above. Photographs will not be admitted if they are submitted in any other format.
Due to their digital nature, photographs may be retouched, as long as it is to apply filters with the aim of improving quality (contrast, brightness...). It is not permitted, however, to use tools to add or eliminate elements, mix a number of photographs or to modify the original composition.
It is essential that all contestants register at and give the following information:
- Name
- Surname
- Nickname or Alias (if you would like to keep your identity a secret)
- Identity/ Passport number/ Residency permit number, etc.
- Telephone number
Each photograph submitted must also be identified with the following details:
- Place and country the photograph was taken
- Year the photograph was taken
- Title of photograph
- Category
- Comment
Regardless of how you choose to submit your photograph, entries will only be accepted if the information above is entered on the web-page provided.
PRIZES
All of the photographs received will be taken into consideration by the jury for one of the following awards; a first prize, a prize for each category finalist and a prize for the public’s choice.
PhotoBarrabes Prize: Gift Cheque for 1,500 Euros, exchangeable for equipment at Barrabes.com
Prize for category: Gift Cheque for 500 Euros, exchangeable for equipment at Barrabes.com
Public’s choice award - The North Face Prize: Merlin 33 Backpacking Tent + Blue Kazoo Sleeping bag + Terra 60 Rucksack + Varius Guide Jacket.
Gift cheques may only be exchanged at Barrabes.com from 5/2/2009 to 31/3/2009. Gift cheques will always be exchanged for the retail price of equipment and no kind of offer or discount will be applied. In no case may the prizes be exchanged for cash.
Should the public’s choice award winning photograph coincide with one of the jury’s award winning photographs (first prize or category finalists), the photograph in question will receive the prize awarded by the jury. The Public’s Choice award would therefore be received by the runner up in that category.
RIGHTS
The contestant must be the sole copyright owner of the photograph submitted and must ensure that no third parties will claim any right regarding the photographs presented for the contest. Barrabes will not be responsible for possible fraud, regarding ownership of the photographs submitted to the contest.
Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. will reproduce the photographs in the image gallery on the web-page (always accompanied by the author’s full name, or pseudo name if provided) as they are received. It will also be possible for some of the submitted photographs to be used for other purposes, such as desktop backgrounds and screen savers, image galleries, the magazine, etc. in all cases, for a non-profit making purpose and within the context of www.barrabes.com, or for promoting future photography contests. Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. reserves the right to refuse the consideration of those photographs which do not respond to the theme of the contest, or which are considered offensive. The right is also reserved to change a photograph into a different category without previous consent if considered more suitable to the theme of the category.
Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U will not be the copyright owner of the prize-winning photographs but prize-winners will cede Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U the right (although not the exclusive right) to reproduce the prized photographs for internal use. It will not be possible for Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. to trade or cede the photographs to a third party. Prize winners will also agree to facilitate Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U with the original photographs before receiving the prize.
Neither will Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U own the copyright for any of the other photographs submitted, other than the terms stipulated above regarding the use of the images in the contest.
PRIVACY NOTICE
Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. guarantees the correct treatment of personal data according to current Spanish legislation (Ley Orgánica 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal Data). Details provided by contestants are stored in a confidential file. All participants retain the right to accede, rectify or cancel their personal data at any time, in writing to or Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U., NAC. 330A KM.566, 2197 Cuarte (Huesca).
JURY
The jury will be selected by Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. and will consist of important figures in the world of mountaineering and/or photography. The names of the jury will be made public before the closing date for the presentation of originals.
The Public’s choice award will be decided exclusively by Barrabes.com customers registered at Barrabes.com by voting at the following link: . Voting will take place from 19th January 2009 to 1st February 2009. A photograph may only be voted for once by each voter. Voters will be able to grade as many photographs as they wish from 1 to 5. All voters will have the chance to win an "Amplitude Triclimate Jacket" by The North Face.
Should any member of Barrabes personnel detect an anomaly during the voting process, such votes, which may be considered as suspicious for not fulfilling the conditions of entry, will be annulled.
The final result will be published at www.barrabes.com on 4th February 2009 and will be personally communicated to the prize-winners.
Barrabes Esquí Montaña S.L.U. will resolve any unforeseen incident which may arise and is not regulated in the conditions of entry.
AGGREEMENT
It will be assumed that all those who participate in the contest accept all the present conditions of entry.
