Barrabes.com was born in 1996 as an on-line version of the Barrabes Ski & Mountain Store. This store specializes in the sale of climbing equipment and is based in Benasque, a village with just 1,000 inhabitants, in the heart of the Pyrenees and at the foot of Aneto Peak (3,404 m).
What was initially a simple on-line catalogue, serving as support for on-line sales, gradually became a mountaineering equipment reference and discussion point for climbers and mountaineers. Barrabes.com started to receive orders for outdoor equipment from all parts of Spain and the rest of the world! The web page grew at the same pace as electronic commerce: on-line forms of payment were introduced, an efficient logistic service was developed, a whole post-sales service was set up,...but we wanted to offer something else... We wanted to offer mountain enthusiasts a place at Barrabes.com where they could find out the latest news, chat to other mountaineers, find out about competition dates, the weekend weather forecast...And in this way we were able to develop a complete, up-to-date mountaineering digital magazine.
In March 2002, we decided to set ourselves a new challenge; to print a very technical mountaineering publication, of the type we ourselves would like to read: accounts of outstanding ascents in the history of climbing and mountaineering. The most reliable comparative tests on outdoor equipment, excellent topos with thorough descriptions,...The result was: Cuadernos Técnicos, a bi-monthly publication which has stood out for its thorough technical content from the start.

Philosophy
Those of us working for BARRABES, believe we are working more for a concept, than a company since mountaineering is, for most of us, an obsession, a refuge and a destiny.
Years have now passed since BARRABES started to include news articles and we created our Mountaineering Digital Magazine. Since then, more and more outdoor enthusiasts have connected to barrabes.com, to spend a while browsing or investigating a particular subject or updating their knowledge on certain products. Our aim has been to become a meeting point for all those who get more than just a kick out of the mountains.
Cuadernos Técnicos
This represented a jump to the world of printed paper, and was, in particular, the result of a project. Since the publication of the first issue in March, 2002, it has been based on quality and content detail. Internet has implanted a new form of understanding and communication and Cuadernos Técnicos is the result of this new way of thinking, which intends to remove barriers and obstacles with the final aim of creating a real meeting point for the mountaineering community.
Its success among mountaineers is our greatest pride and serves as an impulse to continue offering the most technical mountaineering Spanish publication.

Our first book "Certificado de Iniciación al montañismo" was published in March 2001 and was the start of a project which opened doors to other books and other stories,...
Since then we have worked non stop and with great care, to be able to offer quality texts to the mountaineering and travelling community, both for enjoyment and for acquiring greater knowledge of a particular area or activity.
