Garmont. Italian quality...since 1867

At Barrabes we're fully aware of the level of responsibility that exists when it comes to selecting top mountaineering equipment for our customers. Because unlike other materials, what we sell seriously involves the safety of our customers and this commitment is not something we take at all lightly.

For this reason we only choose brands and materials that give us maximum confidence and leave us in no doubt about their quality. We are fully committed to the safety of our customers, friends and our own team.

What can we say, then, about a brand that's been manufacturing high quality Italian mountaineering and alpine climbing footwear since 1867? About a brand which was started by the best Italian shoemakers 147 years ago and which is still owned by the same family and is in the same location today? Well just this; they have our full confidence.

And this confidence is not only inspired by Garmont's experience and reputation. It is also the result of the performance of their footwear and the positive experiences of our customers and friends over the years.

The Calzaturifcio Morlin company was founded in 1867 as a third party footwear manufacturer, in the Montebelluna region, in northern Italy. 147 years later, their headquarters are still in the same area.

Not only this, but even the owners are still the same and 5 generations later, the descendants of these founders still hold the reigns of the company. “Passing on the knowledge and experience of the craftsmanship required to make footwear in northern Italy can sometimes be complicated. Too many headquarters, families, too many generations and too many changes in a small area.

This is not our case. An uninterrupted line of 5 generations has allowed us to accumulate the level of knowledge and expertise in shoemaking that is only achieved by few. For 147 years the company has had just one owner, one headquarters and just one aim: to manufacture the most innovative, functional and highest quality mountain and outdoor footwear that can be found on the market.”

In 1990 the name Garmont was launched, together with an international campaign which, due to the quality of the product, soon brought positive results and mountaineers all over the world began to wear their boots. Today, Garmont exists in 45 countries around the world.

This international presence did not just imply a commercial relaunch, but it also allowed Garmont to learn how to understand mountain footwear in different countries. This inspiration from the 5 continents is evident throughout their range.

“As a consequence, this inspiration and internationalization, has led to rather an eclectic collection, but this collection doesn't renounce the traditions learnt at home over the past 150 years: style, high quality and outstanding craftsmanship in order to produce exceptional footwear in terms of comfort, fit and functionality.”

Today, Garmont combines the latest technology with the know-how accumulated over the centuries by their own craftsmen. They safeguard this knowledge, but don't cease to innovate and increase their legacy they received, day by day. And this can easily be seen by simply trying on their boots or shoes.
