travel and adventure book
The Parisian geographer, mountaineer, traveler and writer Sylvain Tesson, International Prize of the Spanish Geographic Society and reference in travel and adventure literature, in the company of his friend and high mountain guide Daniel du Lac, winner of the Bouldering World Cup in 2004 and pioneer alpinist on extreme routes, crossed the Alps on skis, from Menton, on the edge of the Mediterranean Sea, to reach Trieste, passing through Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Slovenia. Every year, from 2018 to 2021, when winter ended they would slide on the snow to "wander in purity."
In Blanco, Tesson narrates this beautiful and powerful journey that lasts four winters, where they taste the water with their fingers, the limestone smells of light, they read poetry aloud, and the wonder involves lying down in a dry place after a diabolical day. Skiing, sleeping in shelters, the cold, the danger of avalanches, mundane things explained with the sophisticated look of poetry, mixed with a plain sense of humor and accompanied by the voices of the books that are found or transported along the way, "height libraries" from the bottom of backpacks. And so, Tesson achieves the connection between muscle and soul, between wild life and the refinements of the spirit, blurring the contours of what is truly poetic and turning Blanco into a delicious adventure.
