Aesthetics, design and safety.
Surely more than once, while enjoying a session at the climbing wall, you have wondered who is the creator of that colored “canvas”. Who traces those devilish routes that put you to the test? Who places the dams and volumes? Who keeps them in perfect condition?... Behind all this work is the figure of the routesetter. He and his team are in charge of designing the routes and problems that go through the panels, the ones responsible for making you enjoy and surprise yourself with new movements every time you climb the rock. Whether you are a professional routesetter or want to get started in the world of routesetting, run a climbing facility, or are just a rock climber who likes to train in a climbing wall and is curious about how those fun movements are created on the panel , this manual is for you. In it you will find all the information, work tools and efficiency and organization methodologies that will be useful when it comes to understanding routesetting.
GUILLERMO BURBA, originally from Argentina and a graduate in Computer Science, began to explore this profession in the year 2000 at a climbing wall called Perú Beach, in the city of Buenos Aires. Today it is still in operation and is one of the most important in Argentina. At that time, the word routesetting was not heard and the game consisted of moving dams from one place to another with a manual key and marking routes with colored ribbons on each dam. Nor was there a great variety of holds and volumes as there are today, so making a good route setting required a lot of mental and physical effort. Life led him to Europe and he spent three years living in Germany, in the city of Bonn; there he worked in the most popular installations in the area and learned about modern routesetting. Upon arriving in Spain, he had already visited an endless number of climbing facilities and was lucky enough to participate in various congresses, events, and training courses throughout Europe and the US. He is also involved in the regulated training of climbing sports technicians in Spain, which he coordinates for several years so that future technicians are part of both work in the mountains and work in climbing facilities. In turn, he is also a member of the Spanish Association of Mountain Guides (AEGM), of which he is a member of its board of directors. His passion led him to become part of one of the largest climbing facilities companies in Europe: SputnikClimbing, where, together with the best people, they take the evolution of climbing and routesetting to new horizons every day.
