The crevices that cut through the walls are the most obvious natural climbing lines, and since the dawn of mountaineering they have been the first choice for climbers in their quest to trace their routes.
But nowadays, with the almost absolute protagonism of sport climbing and the block, fissures are the ugly duckling of climbing. No wonder: while wall climbing is natural and intuitive, cracks require specific technique and slow and sometimes frustrating learning.
The best definition of fissure climbing was given by an American climber: «Wall climbing is climbing with what there is; to climb in fissures is to climb with what is not there ». That is, with the empty holes offered by the fractures of the rock, which is where we will have to embed our limbs or entire body. These techniques for holding our appendages in fissures are commonly called "recesses," "recesses," or "bolts."
The Crack Climbing manual. Initiation and improvement was born to help already initiated climbers who want to learn or improve their skills to face climbing cracks. In addition to the most well-known and commonly used basic techniques, it includes a repertoire of less-known advanced techniques, which specialists, such as Máximo Murcia, have developed with the advance of difficulty in dealing with the most challenging fissures and widths.
